Qld: Qantas jet grounded after bird strike
A Qantas passenger jet's been grounded in far north Queensland after a bird was suckedinto one of its engines.
The Boeing 737-800, carrying 126 passengers, had just taken off from Cairns airportabout 7 pm (AEST) last night when the bird strike occurred.
Several loud bangs were heard aboard flight QF800 to Darwin, and the pilot respondedby shutting down the engine and returning to the Cairns airport.
Qantas has arranged another flight to take the passengers to Darwin while the jet isgrounded for repairs.
Qantas says the bird strike affected the engine on the plane's left wing.
