As a kid in the early 1950s, Pat McGrath loved going to his dad's office downtown on Saturday mornings and stopping for lunch on the way home at Bob & Ron's Fish Fry.
For the past two years, McGrath, 57, has owned the place with the landmark neon sign.
The namesake fish fry is Atlantic cusk, deep-fried until golden brown and placed in a sandwich roll, with a slab of steaming hot fish hanging several inches out of the bun at either end. A $3.50 sandwich is the quintessential vessel for a slathering of tartar or cocktail sauce.
New England wholesalers deliver the cusk five days a week; they'll bring Atlantic cod when the catch is off.
